Back to work but just out of curiosity, what might have caused this menu to drop out , I've been using it regularly for a (couple?) of years...?

You mean 3D surface is missing? You have to enable the experimental features.

Found it and restored it. Thank You!

FYI, I have uninstalled all versions of freecad and done a clean reinstall of the new 20.2 in case there were residual bugs. No change in the 3d path dropdown, the only tool available is 3d pocket. I've attached another screenshot.

don't know what caused your loss of data but the unit tab in preferences is not shown because there are too many tabs there, if you use the arrows besides the tabs you'll find it. (this has been improved in 0.21 where unit settings are now in the general tab). I couldn't get past macro on the first...

Are you logged into Windows with the same user name each time? Yes, I am the only user on the account Any changes to permissions? no changes to permissions (that I am aware of...) Any Windows updates? I had that thought, I didn't check but it is entirely possible, windows seems to update constantly...

I restarted the program and went back to the preferences menu and units and help have now popped up...
