Thank you Gene and Chris. This is what I got so far with the previously stated version (have to update my operation system soon to update to 0.19). Not finished yet, but it's getting close to something that I like.

I would like to have some input on the following shape. If I were to make a part similar to the spiral stand shown in the image, I would most likely use a multi-section sweep with a 3D-sketch and finally cut off the bottom to have a flat surface.
