Re: FreeCAD daily on Linux Mint 20.3 / Cannot install gmsh

It is bin, no need to install, just link to the gmsh bin for FEM in: Edit --> Prefereces --> FEM --> Gmsh --> Gmsh binary path Thanks user1234 for your fast response. Also, thank you for the hint about the pre compiled Linux binaries. I was not aware of that somehow  I will try this out, i...

Re: Ticket #5759 - [FEM] mesh groups only work after calling gmsh again

@joha2 looks like your PR was merged. Would you be so kind to follow-up regarding what the status of 5759 is? Thanks! Hey Kunda1, As far as I know, when you use mesh groups via the GUI interface you still have to regenerate the mesh to be able to use these groups. My implementation just exposed the...

FreeCAD daily on Linux Mint 20.3 / Cannot install gmsh

Hey guys, I've recently upgraded my distribution from EOL Linux Mint 18.3 to (a fresh) Linux Mint 20.3 (which is based on Ubuntu Focal). I hoped that freecad-daily becomes available again. So I installed the PPA and installed freecad-daily (i.e. the Python 3 flavor) > sudo apt search freecad i freec...

Re: Optics Workbench

Hi Christi, Thank you for sharing the insights into your Optics Workbench, too, and pointing me to the code! - Create a line (ray) with infinite length - Find all intersection points with any FreeCAD geometry - Find the nearest intersection point that is part of an OpticalObject (=lens, mirror or ab...

Re: Fenics as Solver

In order to extend this very nice functionality, is it possible to do these changes in xdmf output method? At the moment, there is a section in the xdmf with 0 or 1 for each ID. Therefore, in FEniCS, one has to do multiple lists (no big deal). Dirichlet boundary conditions with multiple lists will ...

Re: Optics Workbench

ping ping Hey guys! Sorry for my late response (somehow I get no emails when noticed in some thread)!   Definitely it is on our agenda to support FreeCAD objects, but we wanted to first provide a core code which can be used without FreeCAD and then write some interface to Free...

Re: Optics in FreeCAD

The Optics workbench is now installable via the addons manager. Here are some impressions: <nice pictures here> Very nice work :D :D :D!!! I'm curious: How did you do a fast representation of the rays? makeLine is not that fast. Did you use the functions from the Draft workbench? Best wishes Johannes

Re: Virtual elements

Hi bernd and joha2. Could Fem mesh: Create mesh groups in python be helpful in making "Virtual elements" come true? Hi, sorry for my late response! The mesh groups in Python (and those in the GUI) may be used to collect certain elements and put them together to groups. You may also collec...

Any news on that? In particular on update of the freecad-daily package on launchpad?
